US Soldiers in Iraq Get a
Reminder of Home
Austin, Texas, November 23,
2004 — Some US
soldiers in Bravo Company of the 701st MSB (Main Support Battalion,
Kitzengen Germany) received a special gift to help them take their minds off the
fighting in Iraq. After receiving an e-mail request from soldiers in Iraq, Mike
Laymon of Austin’s Margaritas-To-Go managed to ship several bottles of his
famous “Margarita Man” frozen beverage mixes to their base camp in Iraq.
“We've been busy as hell,”
stated First Sergeant
John Dennis. “The
troops have driven 750,000 miles plus. The drinks have been a great addition to
our bar and the soldiers have enjoyed them every time we have a BBQ.”
“I’m
happy to help out our troops overseas, any way I can” stated Laymon. “This
seemed like a pretty easy thing to do, and it helped ward off a little
home-sickness.” Mike points out that the soldiers, who are not allowed to
consume alcoholic beverages while stationed in Iraq, are enjoying the frozen
drinks without alcohol. “These drinks have such a nice, fruity flavor, you
really don’t need the alcohol to make them taste good.”
How does
John feel about these special gifts from back home? As he told Mike, “It’s
Americans like you that make this job the best in the world.”
