A Surprising Fact About
Margaritas
- from Mike Laymon, Austin's Margarita Man:
Question: "What's the difference between Triple Sec, Gran
Marnier & Cointreau?"
Answer: Triple Sec is a orange liqueur made from the skins of Curacao
and other exotic oranges that have been fermented, sun-dried, reconstituted,
then triple distilled. Most commercial triple sec is artificially
flavored, so check the label for one with all natural ingredients! Gran
Marnier, imported from France, is made by blending super-premium orange liqueur
with premium cognac. It is 80 proof compared to 42 proof of standard
triple sec. Cointreau, another French import, is a super-premium 80 proof
orange liqueur made from orange peel, grain spirits and cane sugar, then triple
distilled. Cointreau was probably used for the original margarita and is
my personal favorite! |
