A Surprising Fact About Cinco de Mayo
(from Mike Laymon, Austin's Margarita Man):
The answer is: It's not Mexican Independence Day! The
question is: What's the historical significance of Cinco de Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo, The Fifth of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexicans
over the French army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Primarily a regional
holiday celebrated in Mexico, it is also celebrated in the United States in
areas with a significant Mexican population (and it should be celebrated with
frozen margaritas)!
P.S. - Mexican Independence Day is September 16.
